Beyond SEO for Attracting More Traffic.
It Takes More Than SEO to Get Traffic to Your
Website.SEO, Email and The Art of Driving Traffic.
If you’re in business you probably have a website. At least I hope you do. And I really hope it’s a website built with a business purpose in mind. Like building your list for permission email marketing. Or generating leads that fit your sales process. Or selling products via your shopping cart.
If your website is just sitting there as a static, online brochure then please get help. Especially if you want to compete in the 21st Century. Otherwise you can count on your competition eating your lunch.
The buzzwords in online marketing tend to be centered around SEO (search engine optimization), PPC (pay per click advertising) and Social Media. But there’s much more to it than these tactics.
So let me share with you a list of the many ways to get traffic to your website. I would like your comments here on the blog about which of these you would like us to help you understand as we work to develop new education content to share in the WealthNet Partners community and in upcoming seminars and webinars. Your feedback is really important so I hope you will invest a couple of minutes to add a comment below in this regard.
Here is a fairly comprehensive list of the many ways to drive traffic to your website.
1.SEO. Search engine optimization includes two broad categories including on page and off page. On page means your content including keywords, text and images. It also includes the title tags, alt tags, and descriptions built into your source code. Search engines can see this stuff. Which is a good thing if it matches what people are searching for online. Unless your whole site is designed in flash. (I actually still see this from time to time.) The off page stuff really translates to links. Back links are links on other sites that enable people to find you. Search engines like high quality links. Try to goof with the search engines and they will goof you back. Focus on quality links and avoid crappy link building services.
2.PPC. I wrote about this a while ago. It’s all about buying traffic to your website. You can turn it on and turn it off instantly. Doing well with PPC means you need to know what you’re doing with ads and campaigns. You need to test and learn. You need to make sure your site is converting so you actually generate a return on investment.
3.Blogging. You’re reading one. If you are passionate about your subject matter you too can knock out useful blog content. Or you can pay good writers to write for you. (I prefer to do most of my writing, actually all of my blogging to date. I also use ghost writers for projects, books, and client work.)
4.Email. Yes, email marketing works. But do it well. This means be consistent, personal and relevant. Which means don’t be like the freaking loser who spams my list and yours. I try not to hate anyone but spammers make it tough.
5.Social media. Being social online can make a huge difference in driving traffic to your site. Like email though, don’t be a fool by being in everyone’s face and telling them how great you are and why we should drive over to your car wash today. Interact. Teach. Offer value. Be engaging and interesting.
6.Webinars. Teaching sells. Be sure to offer great value from an educational standpoint.
7.Podcasts. Another form of teaching that sells. Ditto on offering value.
8.Forums and Blogs. Participating in forums and blogs enables you to engage. Ditto on offering value.
9.Video. People love video. Even I need to do a better job with this. Use Youtube, Vimeo and other popular sites.
10.Public relations. Online press releases can make a huge impact if done well.
11.Articles. This has to be done well because Google will penalize you if you distribute content and links via Link Farms.
12.Infographics, ebooks, white papers, and cool content. Once again, these are all means of offering value by teaching. Do it well. If you stink at writing and designing cool looking content then be willing to pay for talent.
13.Word of mouth. If people find your content cool they will tell their friends and family about you. If they don’t, they won’t.
14.Seminars and workshops. Speak and grow rich. Just be good at it. (I have a killer speaker coach to send your way if you’re interested.)
So there you have it. SEO and more. 14 ways to get more traffic to your website. If I forgot anything you can think of please leave a comment.
The question I most often get is how the heck do I as a business owner or professional find or make the time to do all this stuff? The simple answer is you have to care enough to do some of it. I don’t know anyone who does it all on their own. Me included. I leverage talented people and I PAY them. You should too.
Please help us understand which of these subjects you would like to see more education content on in the form of webinars, emails, seminars, etc.
