Trobriand Islands
« Reply #91 on: July 05, 2012, 02:30:15 PM »

Trobriand Islands

Trobriand Islands make an intact piece of land located in the Solomon Sea, east of the PNG mainland. Bronislaw Malinowski, an Austrian anthropologist, visited the islands once to study the way people behaved in the island. After having spent nearly three years on the island and completely immersing himself into the culture of the Trobrianders, he succeeded in his investigation publishing the worldwide famous book "The Sexual Life of Savages in North-Western Melanesia". After that Trobriand Islands, known to the world as the "Islands of Love", have always attracted especially men hoping to find the "welcoming" topless, grass-skirted Trobriand girls behind some bushes during yam harvest, when according to the tradition the islanders are allowed to fling with others.

However, that is not the only reason why Trobriand Islands attract tourists. It has wonderful white sandy beaches, magnificent coral lagoons and rainforest, fascinating flora and fauna, a unique version of the game of cricket, extraordinary culture differing from ours. All the above mentioned make Trobriand Islands a great travel destination for those who travel for cognitive purposes and want to see something unusual and interesting. Coming to Trobriand Islands make sure to let the Chief and the Sorcerer know your purpose of visiting their country. It is a sign of respect and the way it should go. You will have the chance to witness the Garden magician control the islanders' work and the forces of nature through hereditary complex magic inherited from his mother's line.

Everybody's eye will catch the interesting dwellings of the Trobrianders, made of rectangular log frames covered with pitched, thatched roofs which can reach to the ground. Yam storage houses are located next to their houses having even more complex shape, built on piles. The Chiefs' dwellings are located in the center of village and are decorated with painted boards. Trobrianders also have some special ceremonial area, which is used for important rituals. Tourists' visits will be colored here by the gay traditional dances of the Trobrianders particularly during Yam festival, which takes place in June or July. All the Trobriand girls have colorful short skirts, oiled bodies, painted faces and hair decorated with various flowers and multicolor feathers. Trobriand men wear grass skirts and some head dresses decorated with cockatoo feathers. During this festival many islanders choose a partner for them and flirt with them, after which they become couples. What is very exciting and interesting is that the islanders show their love towards their partner biting off his eyebrows and eyelashes! That is really something unique and extraordinary as the islanders themselves are.

There are only two restaurants in the islands and no hotels at all. Visiting this island of yam, it would be pointless not to try some yam. In general Trobrianders eat taro, yams, coconut, sugarcane, bananas, shellfish, fish, and Torres Straight pigeons. They prepare meal only once, at night after finishing the gardening. The dinner can include taro, yams and occasionally fish, fowl, pork or eggs. During the day, the islanders gather mangoes, bananas and breadfruit. Only the lowest classes will eat stingray or bush pig. Oranges, mandarins, nuts, maize, oysters, clams, prawns, and other shellfish is a secondary food source. Betel, chewed with lime, is the popular stimulant.

Buying decorated gourds and wooden carvings, especially made from the traditional yam stores, tourists are sure to carry home a bright memory form their adventure travel to Trobriand Islands. Thus their crazy, unique and interesting trip to the "Islands of Love" ends carrying home lots of funny and bright memories with them.

Tromelin island
« Reply #93 on: July 07, 2012, 01:34:07 PM »

Tromelin island

Talking about this tiny wonderful island of Tromelin, I can't resist myself not telling the beautiful and exciting story of its discovery. In 1761 as a result of a shipwreck 125 people survived and found themselves on this sandbank. This island, absolutely deserted, without a single tree and shrub, is 350 km. far from the nearest corner of civilization - Madagascar. The survivors of the shipwreck were on the sand under the scorching sun for about 2 months until they built a small wooden raft. Repairing the ship, half of them went to Madagascar, leaving 60 people on the island, as the ship couldn't carry all of them. They promised to be back for them by all means, but the Government of Madagascar prohibited this. People in Tromelin patiently waited for two years. Seeing no signs and losing their hope, they began to build their own raft to reach Madagascar. All their attempts failed and many of them died on the way. After 15 years on this uninhabited island, only 7 women and an eight-month-old boy were finally saved by Chevalier de Tromelin, a French officer, after whom the island was called Tromelin.

At present Tromelin is a sea turtle sanctuary. It is also a site of an important meteorological station. The Tromelin island is uninhabited till now and is constantly visited by different scientists who carry out their investigations here. The island is under the territory of France.

Tromelin is known to the world for its unique vegetation and a rare bird life. There are many seabirds or marine birds here, which are very uncommon and vary from all the other birds in their lifestyle, appearance and behavior.

Tromelin island is home to many herbaceous plants and coral reefs, also found under the water.

The island cannot attract tourists with luxurious hotels having high class room and excellent service, different parks and historical sightseeing, as it has none of the listed. However, those who are looking for more extreme travel destinations, who are eager to find hidden places on this planet, to explore uninhabited lands and why not experience many life difficulties in the nature, unlike our modern comfortable life, equipped with everything that makes it easy for us to live, should think of Tromelin for instance. People who wonder how our ancestors used to live and survive between the sky and the earth and nothing else, without electricity, mass and media communication, simple devices that are so necessary in our everyday life, should gather together and take a "study" tour to such small islands, as Tromelin. Be sure to find the answers to all of your questions here and at the same time experience a unique, not typical rest in the nature.

Currently Tromelin is not open for touristic visits and has no resorts and hotels. Nevertheless, its white perfect sand, colorful underwater life, all year round sunny, wonderful tropical weather, plants and fetching coral reefs together form a great opportunity for the development of the island and making it a gorgeous touristic center one day.

Tuamotu island

Deep lagoons, colorful seashells, tropical fantastic weather, sugar powdery beaches, a clear sea, stunning abundance of underwater life, marine parks, farms producing black pearls, quiet and peaceful life in the small villages, diving, tours by a canoe, different outdoor adventures - all these words best characterize the wonderful Tuamotu islands of French Polynesia. This fantasy-land is the remains of former volcanoes, which have been gradually destroyed by rain, wind and began more and more immersed into the ocean forming a wonderful coral ring, which surrounds the magnificent turquoise lagoon of unprecedented beauty.

Tuamotu Archipelago Islands are located about 200 miles north-east from the island of Tahiti in the Pacific Ocean, being one part of French Polynesia. Tuamotu is a reflection of the greatest collection of coral reefs in the world, which comprises 78 atolls.

Tuamotu waters are many divers' dream. The underwater scenery that you'll encounter when scuba diving is guaranteed to be one of the best and most exciting among the landscapes that you have ever seen. On high-speed motor boats or canoe tourists can reach the ravishing lagoons, where the day passes by searching colorful seashells and chopping trees. Fishing in Tuamotu is another favorite pastime of tourists.

The ideal tropical weather of Tuamotu islands lets tourists visit the islands any time of the year. The beauty of the islands is even more decorated by the coconut palms, banana trees, shrubs and other trees.

The best and most famous atolls of Tuamotu are Rangiroa, Manihi, Tikehau and Fakarava.

The atoll of Rangiora is the second largest one in the world. Rangiora is known as one of the best places for diving and snorkeling, which is so interesting due to the rich underwater flora and fauna. There are a few high quality resorts, small guesthouses on this island for tourists to stay at. Rangiora also has several farms on the growth of pearls, which are also worth visiting. Manihi is one of the smallest islands, that tourist visit. Manihi Island is a real cradle of black pearls, having the first pearls growing plantations of French Polynesia. Manihi's lagoon is a real paradise for snorkelers. Tourists looking for small peaceful and comfortable piece of land standing out with its beauty should make their selection the atoll of Manihi without hesitating. The atoll of Tikehau will entice those tourists, who would like to have a rest on its fantastically beautiful beaches of coral sand having some pinkish hue, next to the overgrown coconut groves, study the rich underwater kingdom of the island, and watch several species of birds building their nests without leaving the shore, straight from the boat.

Fakarava deals with almost pristine corals in the Central Pacific, thus having the status of Biosphere Reservation by UNESCO. The island's huge lagoon stands out for its fantastic underwater world and a great population of stingrays, sharks, hammerheads, tiger sharks, etc. Interesting touristic sights are the farm, raising "Rory" ("sea cocumber", which is very much valued by Asian gourmets), and the old village Tetamanu, which has one of the oldest Catholic church of Tuamotu.

On the islands of Tuamotu there are hotels of international level, small hotels, hostels, houses or rooms that provide the most basic amenities and care about tourists' complete rest here. The archipelago is developing rapidly, gradually becoming a remote touristic center and calling lots of tourists from different sides of the world to admire its beauty and have an incredible rest here.

Tubuai islands
« Reply #95 on: July 07, 2012, 01:40:59 PM »

Tubuai islands

Looking for more and more "unknown", farther and farther isolated lands to explore the world of islands and have an exceptional rest? I am sure that very little percentage of people know about the "secret" group of islands Tubuai. Tubuai islands together makes an ideal piece of land located to the south from the Society Islands in the Pacific Ocean. The second name of the islands is Austral Islands, being the administrative capital of it and a part of French Polynesia.

Tubuai Islands consist of seven main islands - Rimatara, Rurutu, Tubuai, Raivavae (Vavitu) and Rapa, the uninhabited atoll Ile-Maria and the rocky islets Marotiri. Tubuai or as the locals call it "The island of complete peace and clarity" is a real tranquil wonder in the world. It is one of the best resorts of Tubuai Islands group, being the center of it. It has always been alluring tourists with its tempting, fascinating beaches, warm, crystal clear water, mysterious underwater world, tropical excellent weather and exotic coconut palms. Tubuai is considered to be one of the best places in French Polynesia for a quiet and leisurely enjoy, admiring the beauty of nature. The extensive amount of water lagoon protects Tubuai from powerful ocean waves. The Islanders are extremely proud of their homeland and very friendly. Here you can ride in a canoe, catch a fish or lobster, visit the old coffee plantations or abandoned coffee factory. But the best kind of adventure is considered to be a tour by bicycle or horseback tour around the perimeter of the island, visiting more than three hundred species of sites, the craters of ancient volcanoes, the Center for geological wonders, crafts workshops, as well as the picturesque villages of Mataura, which is the most significant settlement in the entire archipelago, Taahuayya and Mahu.

Rurutu is another superb resort of Tubuai. Rurutu is a true magical island where you can see the best Polynesian tradition in reality. Handicrafts made by Rurutu people are considered to be the best in the country, so you can buy a special gift for your friends here. Among them you will find all kinds of baskets, wood carvings, stone carvings, and, of course, the famous local hats, manufactured according to centuries-old traditions, with full respect for ancient technology. But the main attraction of the island is the high cliffs on the edge of the shore, from which a magnificent panorama of the seasonal migrations of humpback whales opens in spring and fall. The herds of whales are just 30-50 meters from the shore, so the most audacious tourists can even swim amongst them, which will always remain bright in your memory.

Raivavae or Vavitu Island attracts tourists with an amazing lagoon and the coral reef surrounding the island semicircle, forming the southern and eastern sides of a number of "spendthrifts" - Mano, Vaiamanu, Hama, etc. The landscape of the island is really grandiose, but life here is very quiet and pastoral. Thus many tourists will chose this very island when coming to Tubuai, as they will have the chance of pure relaxation in peace and quiet, which is so necessary in our modern life filled with daily hustle and bustle.

The islands of Rimatara and Rapa are no less exceptional with their beauty and as a great touristic resort.

Such kind of "hidden" travel destinations, as Tubuai Islands are a perfect escape from the everyday life, when our minds and bodies need a tranquil rest in the wings of nature, in the presence of the water, the sun, the sky, us and nobody and nothing else!

Tuvalu Islands
« Reply #97 on: July 07, 2012, 01:47:27 PM »

Tuvalu Islands

The mysterious and wonderful island of Tuvalu means gorgeous landscapes, warm sea and clean beaches, all in one word - a true earthly paradise. Tuvalu is a real happy island, which is vivid by the smiles on every single inhabitant on this island. Tuvalu is a group of five small atolls (Funafuti, Nukufetau, Nukulaelae, Nui and Nanumea) and four islands (Niutao, Nanumanga or Nanumaga, Vaitupu and Niulakita) located in the western Pacific Ocean. Though Tuvalu consists of nine islands, it didn't hinder the locals to name it Tuvalu, which means "a series of eight". Tuvalu is a gorgeous travel destination with snow white sandy beaches, fine tropical weather and enhancing waters.

The main attraction of Funafuti is the huge lagoon, where the island is situated. It is very catching to charter a small boat and go to the island Funafala or any other uninhabited island in the southern end of the lagoon, where the nature is virtually untouched. The Marine Park of Funafuti Marina, which was recently announced as a national park by the South Pacific Regional Environment Program, is one of the most unusual reservations of the earth. Composed of six islets, the park is abounded by many species of tropical fish, sea birds and turtles.

Nanumanga is a real "Mecca" for scientists and one of the best places in the region for underwater archeology. Special attention should be paid to the fact that among the islanders of Tuvalu there are many people, who still believe in the legend of "the big house under the sea", supposedly, the former abode of the demigods.

Nukulaelae Island or "the land of sand", as it is known, lies 120 km south-east from Funafuti. This atoll is widely known as the location of a single pre-Christian religious site in the islands. However, until today, only a large stone altar has remained from it, standing in the bush. As for the question who built this "altar", the researchers still argue. One thing is certain - they were the famous "Sea Peoples", the ancestors of many modern tribes of Oceania.

The atoll of Nui is considered to be one of the most quiet and tranquil islands of Tuvalu. The coconut palms, the astounding lagoon, coral reefs and the fresh fish delivered on the dining table are really great temptations and many tourists chose this atoll when coming to Tuvalu. This is where tourists should try the traditional local cuisine. And the waters in this coast are rich in marine life, perfectly suiting for diving.

Niulakita is considered to be the best place in Tuvalu to discover the traditional game of the islanders - "kilikiti" or "Te-ano" ("ball"), reminiscent of a mixture of baseball and volleyball. The surrounding waters, though poorer in coral reefs than the northern islands, are rich in migratory oceanic species, like whales and manta rays, and albatrosses and other birds. Holidays in Tuvalu Islands are going to be extraordinary for sure. Active rest lovers will like the idea that the islanders are fond of dancing, music and organize lots of festivals like the colorful festival of Easter and Christmas, Tuvalu Day or the day of independence, National Children's Day (August 3). On the children's day, the children of the village organize some kind of gala concerts for the locals. Tuvalu people celebrate also the birth of the Queen, the Prince of Wales and the Commonwealth Day, as a member of the British Commonwealth. Making Tuvalu Islands their travel destination tourists will be satisfied as the gorgeous rest here is guaranteed for sure.

Virgin Islands USA
« Reply #98 on: July 07, 2012, 02:06:52 PM »

Virgin Islands USA

Virgin Islands USA is a real Caribbean Paradise thanks to its "virgin" beaches, perfect tropical weather, blue transparent water and sun-kissed happy people. To have a true idea of the West Indies it's advisable to start with the US Virgin Islands, which probably make the "most" West Indies among the Caribbean islands.

Virgin Islands is situated in the Caribbean Sea comprising several isle groups. The country is a well-known touristic destination due to its world famous golden beaches. Coming to Virgin Islands USA you'll never find time to get bored. Tourists have the chance of kayaking, diving, hiking, sailing, taking ecological tours, admiring the beauty of the tropical forests, lying in the sun and sunbathing, doing a great shopping, dining in a romantic atmosphere at a high class hotel, taking part in the nightlife adventures at pubs, restaurants, clubs and disco bars. Thus the country welcomes tourists of different age levels, tastes and interests.

Choosing the island St. Croix, one shouldn't miss the opportunity of visiting the wonderful Botanical Garden of St. George to admire the beauty of rare diverse species of plants, trees, flowers located in and around the restored buildings. St. George garden estate offers a unique blend of botanical, historical and cultural heritage of St. Croix. It is dedicated to preserving the wide variety of native plant species of the island.

Continuing our journey in the island St. Croix, we encounter another "must-see" park - the Rain Forest. Technically it is no rainforest. The Rain Forest contains red trees, sweet limes, mangoes, plums, hog and many other trees and all kinds of vines and ferns. To experience the park's charm, some people decide to drive on Route 76 (also known as Mahogany Road), stopping near the walkways that meander on both sides of the highway into the dry riverbed and the river valley. You can also hike along some small roads.

St. Croix is also home for the Government House, which is a vivid example of Danish architecture. There are also other reservations, parks and monuments in the island. Nevertheless, St. Croix is popular also with wonderful beaches, like the beautiful Davis Bay Beach, a set of emerald-green peaks rising behind it and the crystal clear turquoise water in front of it. The beach is an excellent find for those seeking for some private area to relax, as it is not overcrowded ever. The beach is also a good place for snorkeling, scuba diving, swimming and riding on the crest of a wave with no board. Another famous beach on the island is Sandy Point. The soft sand, turquoise water and tropical foliage on the beach make it ideal to escape from the real world for a while. Sandy Point specializes in the protection of the endangered green sea and leatherback turtles, which lay their eggs on the shore, so the bank is not always available for tourists.

Another "Virgin Island" Saint Thomas offers many modern, high class beaches for tourists, like the peaceful Breuers Bay, Hull Bay - a relatively quiet little beach with calm and pleasant water, an ideal place for holidays with children and pets, Morning Star Beach, known as the most liberal land in Virgin Islands (crowds of young people hang here, many of them gay, and you'll find the closest bikini than anywhere else on St. Thomas), Koki Beach famous for snorkeling, scuba diving, jet skiing, parasailing. Along the coast is the famous underwater observatory Coral World Underwater and Marine Park. Diving in St. Thomas will give you unforgettable memories. You will see a variety of creatures whose existence you never knew before. Snorkeling in Koki Beach, you will see various brightly colored fish.

The island Saint John suggests tourists many beaches too. Among them Great Cruz Bay is well-known, which was originally a small bay surrounded by mangrove wetlands with peat substrate. The bay is quite calm suiting those looking for a peaceful rest.

Trunk Bay is the most modern beach on the island. It is a beautiful, breathtaking beach, with lovely soft white powdery sand, stretching into the sea. The shore is covered with coconut palms, sea grapes and Mahos Bay, with its lush tropical vegetation extending into a flat valley floor, where all services of Trunk Bay welcome you. Havksnest Beach is an exclusively beautiful and comfortable bay, which is a perfect place for family leisure.

Exploring the island with a bird's eye on twin-engine aircraft, yachting, sport fishing in the blue and white marlin, diving, varied adventures - all these can hardly not captivate tourists and carry to Virgin Islands USA!

Kapalai Island, Malaysia

http://images.placesonline.com/photos/14146_sabah_kapalai_island.jpg

Kapalai is a fantastic destination to visit. Though it is called an island it is actually a big sandbar situated on the Ligitan Reef with a very exclusive resort with beautiful villas built on stilts. Kapalai used to be a real island with vegetation, but over the last few hundred years it was reduced to sea level due to erosion. There are no beaches, though you can walk over the sandbar during low tide and sun bath at the circular man-made beach. Kapalai is all about snorkeling and diving, non-divers might have a better time at Mataking Island with its nice beaches. Directly around the resort there are fantastic snorkeling opportunities and also some very nice dive sites. The best time to visit Kapalai is between April and September.

Diving at Kapalai Island

People that visit Kapalai Island usually come there to relax, to snorkel and to dive. There are numerous nice dive sites directly around Kapalai. Another great thing is the unlimited house reef dives the resort offers to its guests. Diving facilities are great at the resort. Experienced dive masters take divers to the nearby sites. Most scuba dive enthusiasts visit the area to have a chance to dive at Sipadan Island; only about 15 minutes by boat from Kapalai. If you like muck diving you are best off at Mabul Island, the macro paradise of the world. There is a monsoon season between November and February, though visibility is still good.

Accommodation at Kapalai Island

There is only one resort at Kapalai Island called the Sipadan-Kapalai Dive Resort. It is a beautiful and exclusive resort with 30 chalets with private balconies built on stilts along the reefs. Rooms have a fan only as the resort goes through great lengths to minimize the negative impact on the fragile environment. Positive are fresh water (which is recycled afterwards and not released into the ocean), WIFI internet (free in lobby area, RM20 per day in chalet) and there are no mosquitoes which means you can leave the doors to the balcony open during the day/nights for extra coolness (balconies facing the north have the best views and most privacy). Prices are quite high but include 3 daily boat dives (including dive(s) at Sipadan), unlimited house reef dives, airport and boat transfers and all meals (items that you do have to pay for have fairly reasonable prices).

How to get to Kapalai Island

To get to Kapalai Island you first need to take a flight to the coastal city of Tawau. There are daily flights operated by Malaysia Airlines and AirAsia from Kuala Lumpur (and Kota Kinabalu) to Tawau. From Tawau Airport you can either get a taxi (around RM100+) or a bus/minivan to the village of Semporna, a 1,5 hour trip through endless palm oil plantations. At Semporna harbor boats to the neighboring tropical islands depart. The speedboat ride to Kapalai takes about 30 minutes. If you make reservations at the Sipadan-Kapalai Resort, then your package includes an airport meet & greet plus the trip from Tawau Airport to Kapalai (via Semporna, including the boat ride).

Donghai Island
« Reply #100 on: July 08, 2012, 12:52:07 PM »

Donghai Island

Donghai Island in Zhanjiang is a flat, open island. The beach is 28 kilometers long, 100 - 300 meters wide. The crescent-shaped bay is second only after Australia's Gold Coast' beach. So the  beach should be considered the world's runner-up, China's longest.

Activities in the island:

Taste all fresh seafood, don't miss Zhanjiang burned oysters
In this island, the beaches, blue sky, white clouds are different from the other islands, but the sunrise and sunset on the beach is very magnificent.
Perhaps because of the wide field of vision of the background provided by the long beach, it's good to watch the sun rise and set quietly here in the island.

The most impressive is the seafood. If you haven't been to Donghai Island, you do not understand why is the seafood called "fresh seafood", and not unclear the seafood can be so sweet. If you are lucky, you can see the fishermen widening the net while you are walking on the beach. It is said that this is a very traditional, original fishing of local fishermen. Tourists can share the joy of fishing and harvest with the fishermen. In this fun, you can buy several kilos of shrimps and crabs from the friendly fishermen, they will not ask exorbitant price, or cheat in weight, but also help you pick the best fish, shrimps and crabs, let you feel the fruitful results too. Then, you gathered under the sun umbrella, cook a ready-to-eat meal.

In addition, the best recommendation is definitely the Zhanjiang burning oysters. This way of eating is now basically throughout the entire Pearl River Delta and even all over China.

The fruit in Donghai Island is also a must, bananas, mango, jackfruit and so on. “Donghai melon" named directly by the place is a local specialty, crispy and delicious.

Vanuatu Islands

Vanuatu Islands

Vanuatu, the name of which means "Eternal Land", is one of the most unusual, exotic group of islands located in the south of the Pacific Ocean. It is often known as "Pristine paradise in Oceania" due to its magnificent untouched nature, the mountains of rainforests, volcanoes, snow-white beaches, the incredible luxurious underwater world, excellent tropical weather, crystal clean water and exotic corals.

Vanuatu comprises about 14 big and more than 60 small islands, the most important and popular of which are the islands of Efate, Espiritu Santo, which is the largest island of the country, Tanna and Malekula. Vanuatu's population consists of 114 nationalities and languages. However, this will not hinder your rest, as almost all the natives speak good English and are very hospitable, because of which they often call their country "Islands of Smiles".

The island of Tanna is a real fairy-tale like tropical island with warm waterfalls and hot springs. Tourists will have the chance to climb to the top of Mount Yasur to the creator of an active volcano. For extreme tourism lovers, it is a good opportunity to "leap into the ground", which is one of the oldest and most dangerous traditions of the inhabitants. Each year young enthusiasts make a dizzying fall from the height of about 35-meter, relying only on the firm vines tied to their feet. You can take part in the crazy ritual dances of the inhabitants, witness the black magic and sorcery of local witches, have interesting long conversations with the wise leader of the tribe, and have a cup of kava.

Vanuatu is famous as a real "Mecca" for diving, owning an unprecedented set of conditions and facilities for it. The transparency of the sea water is 30 to 50 meters here depending on the season. The formation of cores defines a unique form of underwater terrain too. Around all the islands series of coral reefs are stretching, around which about 600 fish species and 1270 species of marine invertebrates are inhabited. The turbulent history since the Great Geographical Discoveries left many shipwrecks in the waters of Vanuatu making the diving more colorful and enthusiastic. The world's largest shore wreck dive is situated on the island of Espiritu Santo, called the President Coolidge.

Besides the mentioned underwater attractions, the cave Katidral with beautiful light well in the roof, inhabited by numerous small reef slopes and the caves of Bleksendz, Mele Reef and the vast number of shipwrecks in almost all the islands are really worth seeing in Vanuatu. And the seabed around the northern isles of the island Efate is popular with deep canyons and numerous volcanic formations. The first National Park Vanuatu - Big Bay, is a good attraction for tourists. Here the most massive amounts of relict tropical forests are located, being home of more than 170 species of birds and more than a dozen species of orchids. Sentavud (sandalwood) attracts the attention of Europeans to the island of Eromanga. At the southernmost island of Vanuatu, Aneytyume, the islanders have created a small reserve, which protects numerous sea turtles, whereas on other islands they are destroyed for the sake of much valued tortoise soup.

Around the Banks and Torres during the trade winds excellent conditions for windsurfing, waterskiing, snorkeling and just diving are observed (although we should not forget about the sharks). Almost all the islands have excellent conditions for sea fishing. High-quality facilities for trekking through the rainforests and mountains can be found on Espiritu Santo, Gaoua, Ambrime and Eromanga. In Port Vila, there are four excellent golf courses and a couple of casinos.

On the whole, no tourist can be bored on this happy and bright country - Vanuatu.
