Paracel Islands, China
The
Paracel Islands, known as
Xisha Islands in Chinese, are located about 180 sea miles to the southeast of Hainan Island. Together with Dongsha, Zhongsha and Nansha Islands, they are the south tip of China. Since very few visitors have ever landed on the island,
Paracel has the well-preserved marine ecological system.
The
Paracel Islands in the South China Sea consist of over 130 small coral islands, sandbanks and reefs divided into two groups, occupying an area of about 15,000 square kilometers of ocean surface. The Amphitrite Group consists of six low, narrow islands with sand cays, shallow lagoons and reefs, and the Crescent Group consists of eight islands forming a crescent-like structure enclosing a stunning deep, central lagoon.
Beautiful
Paracel Islands are comparable to the Maldives, one of the four Islands in the South China Sea, mainly by the Xuande Islands and Yongle Islands, with a total of 22 islands, seven sandbars and over 10 reefs and hidden shoals! The
Paracel Islands boast fresh, pollution-free air, crystal clear water and a completely undamaged and intricate marine ecosystem. Aside from swimming with sea turtles, there are more than 400 species of coral and oceanic fish living amongst the islands.
In a huge step for Hainan tourism, China has announced the opening up of the breathtaking
Paracel Islands to resort-style tourism. With an intricate archipelago of coral reefs, an abundance of marine life and pristine tropical beaches on an almost untouched paradise, Australia’s Great Barrier Reef has some serious competition.
