Hello MaryOlson.. here you have started a good conversation. Yes.. images is important in our daily life including SEO. We are well known about "A picture is worth 1000 words". Same theory apply when Search Engine Optimizer when put the images with Alt tag.. it gives a visible result as the high ranking in Search Engine Result page.

So.. we should have no doubt in mind about the importance of images on our professional life..

Including image to the web site does not damage your SEO. But if you create pictures instead of material it will impact SEO. Internet search results cannot process pictures to get material.
