A truth about those agents who offer you teaching jobs in China
Recently it's not so easy to find a legal job in China. If you think that it's like those other countries where you just arrive and you can start legally working as a cleaner, dishwasher, waiter, etc., it's not at all. Most of the Chinese companies, restaurants, bars, etc. do not have the permission to hire foreign workers. Many of them don't need foreign workers because (as one foreigner with business in China said) "it's a pain in the ass"
Another foreigner with business in China claims that the locals just don't know how to apply for the right to have a foreign worker. There are also those people who said that the new Chinese policy is, obviously, to reduce the foreigners in China.
Well, despite of all these, there are many agents who offer you teaching jobs (and sometimes other jobs). Sometimes there are lists of jobs (where you can see very, very good salaries and nice locations) but when you apply for a certain job they will ask you for more details (resume, pictures, videos)... usually you're not going to get the job you like; you're even not going to be presented to those concrete employers. Instead, the agents just use your details (like the videos) to post them in their social networks, groups, etc. and when (by chance) there is some employer who wants you, they will ask you
"Well, there is another one, not the one you wanted. Can you accept to work in another place?" That's why I already avoid these agents and usually I answer them with "No, thank you!" The last time I was baited with an offer which is so close to my current residence that I decided to apply. Well, here is what happened:
Hi! I would like to ask about the position in XXX.
yes. still available. like good accent teacher. provide Visa
send me your video and resume please
thx
After some concrete questions, the next dialogue was:
for quick application. please complete these questions:
nationality:
current location:
Visa type and expired date:
need to transfer?
salary minimum?
your degree and major?
target city and school type:
when you start new job?
introduction video
thx
And after bothering to prepare and send all these answers and video... nothing!!! Then I decided to ask them again, what's going on.
The answer was:
Current situation is we put you in the school groups if you any school like you and interested you this you know they will give me reply then we organize interview if I don't contact you it means still so far no schools want to interview so we have to wait.
Did you notice the contradiction? School groups! From one concrete school, it became some "school groups" + "if any school like you and interested"!!! I just informed them that
I see
, but I am interested
only in schools in my province because my everything is here and I am living here for a long time.
So, as a conclusion:
Don't believe all you can read. As wise people said "looks can be deceiving". If you have similar stories, feel welcome to share them.
Let's be honest and frank!
