In the last couple of days I gained a lot of backlinks. Actually it’s about 260, but it is a lot for me and my site is only 3 weeks old. But the problem is, that more than 200 of this links come from three blogs, that I commented on. I only placed 1 comment on each and it generated over 200 links according to yahoo. I should be happy, but it is actually hurting my rankings. I was on page 5 for my keyword, now I’m back to page 11 and it keeps going down. Is google penalizing me for too many backlinks in a couple of day? Why do I have over 200 backlinks from only three blog comments? Any suggestions?

The idea that to many backlinks will penalize you. Many people swear this is true. From my experience though, I'm going to call this a myth. I have NEVER had a website that was banned by Google for to many backlinks. In addition, nowhere in Google's webmaster guidelines do they say that backlinks are a reason for possibly being banned. Here is something to consider. If to many backlinks could penalize your website, what is stopping people from creating thousands of backlinks to their competitor?

use webmaster and check which backlinks were hearting your ranking then disallow those links
