5 Recommended websites for Japanese learning
« on: August 17, 2016, 06:26:48 PM »
Currently there are more and more people interested in learning Japanese. So here I would like to share some good learning Japanese online websites based on my experience:

1 - NHK

NHK - NHK World (Nippon Hōsō Kyōkai - Japan Broadcasting Corporation) is originally an international broadcasting service, Japan’s public broadcaster. NHK also provides Japanese lessons for beginners with the title: Easy Japanese (やさしい日本語). There are 48 lessons, each lesson has interesting video, audio and pictures ilustration. The instructions and guidances from audio file is much helpful with English explainations. In case you need to get the files, you can download the audio file and the PDF file. In addition, in the lessons they provide many interesting facts and knowledge as it may help you a lot in your study. On the other hand, online Japanese lessons in NHK don’t provide practice exercises.

2 - Japanese-Lesson

Japanese-Lesson is another free learning Japanese lessons website which follows a pretty tradition yet easy to grasp structure. Each lesson is divided into 4 parts: Expressions part which give you standard sentences and dialogues in conversation with audio illustration; Basic Rules part which show the grammatical rules; Conmunication Tips part which provide useful information for real-life conversation and some extra facts; and Drill Exercises part which provide exercises related to the knowledge taught in that lesson. The way they deliver the knowledge quite straight-forward and pretty easy to understand, however, sometimes you may feel it kinda vague and nothing special. But in overall, it is a excellent learning Japanese websites as a free lesson website.

3 - Akirademy

Akirademy though is quite a new online japanese lessons website, they provide pretty good contents. Each lesson is divided in different categories and easy to track, from vocabulary, kanji, to grammar structures, grammar, reading, listening exercises. All lessons are illustrated with colorful pictures which are easy to understand and remember, especially kanji and vocabulary. Japanese conversations are also covered so that beginners can listen and take grasp of the way Japanese people talk and Japanese speaking accent. Furthermore, after exercises section, learners can always watch videos about Japanese cultures, values, places which are interesting and exciting to see. In overall, Akirademy is worth trying out, for beginners and advanced learners alike.

4 - FluentU

Lots of people may already know of this name, FluentU is one of the most popular language learning websites, and of course, they also provide good online Japanese lessons. The interesting part about FluentU’s lessons is that they have a wide range of videos with subtitles which is both entertaining and effective in watching and learning. Learners can also easily check the definition of new words with example that they encounter. Also quizzes are included for vocabulary learning purpose. In overall FluentU has good online Japanese lessons with real-life materials, however, in order to use the service you have to pay fee: 15$ a month or 120$ a year. The cost is actually not that high so it is worth a try if you can afford it.

5 - JapanesePod101

According to many Japanese learners, JapanesePod101 is another excellent choice as they provide good online Japanese lessons. The lessons in JapanesePod101 have good organizations and difficulty levels ranging from Absolute beginner to Advanced level. The way they set up a lesson is easy to understand so that beginners can start their Japanese journey with no problem. The learners can expect to study with creative and interesting audio lesson which provides real world contexts that can be used in real conversation. The audio lessons do not only teach about knowledge covered in each lesson, but also give many information, stories, facts about Japanese cultures. Furthermore, they provide many other tools to learn Japanese, for example for JLPT test purpose. Finally the best part could be that learners have the option to have 1 - 1 tutor lessons with Japanese teacher (of course that option costs more). On the contrary, as some users said that they have some problems with the advertisements which can be pretty irritating. But overall, the product and what it offers are suitable for beginners.
