The largest tree crown in the world:

Ficus benghalensis

As the saying goes, "Great trees are good for shade". Do you know what shade of tree is available for the largest number? This is a kind of banyan tree in Bangladesh--Ficus benghalensis,  its canopy covers about 15 acres of land-- one and a half football fields.

What a beautiful tree.  I am sure I read where this tree is considered sacred in India, and often shelters a little or larger temple underneath.

A lot of Ficus plants have a great root system that heads straight for water pipes and can do damage.  Not a good one to plant in your garden.

Can just imagine sitting under it on a hot day.
