Title: Guten tag
Post by: xxs on November 19, 2022, 03:36:53 AM
Guten Tag.

Und... and, nobody speaks German around I suppose. ;D

An online translation of Lexi's German (in English):
Quote
Good afternoon. So I learned German once, because I think it's a beautiful language, and I have to say it's a bit difficult to learn, but I learned it anyway!
I hope that one day I will learn enough to go to Germany because I heard it is beautiful! Probably not as cold as Norway, but it's pretty nice, as I personally think.
I just wanted to write something in German to practice goodbye!

I heard Spanish is more popular and more useful when we compare the Western languages.

It's actually pretty accurate for an online translation.
The only thing that's wrong is "Good afternoon"
In German "guten tag" means "good day" or "hello" while "Guten abend" means "Good evening" which is around afternoon I suppose.

 Good to know, indeed. It means that it's something like the Australian "Good day!" (a.k.a. "Gday!")
 Baidu's translate (fanyi.baidu.com) is really getting better.

Old English is actually similar to German.
English used to have formal and informal versions for you.
Here's how similar old English is with German:
Thou hast (old english)
Du hast (German)

 Both are Germanic languages. English has Latin (and concretely -- French) influence.

Yep, I know.
English has some German and Greek Influence as it has some words taken from those languages (Kindergarten, which, in German, would literally translate to "Children Garden")

Yes, she is right.

"Kind" and it's plural form, "Kinder" use the article "das" (also meaning "the" "Der", "die", and "Das" mean "the" but they have different spellings depending on what case they are in like "Dem, den, der etc")
For example:
"Das Kind sehen einen Hund"
Notice how some words that aren't the at the start of the sentence are capitalized?
It's because in German verbs are ALWAYS capitalized and they are usually the only things capitalized.

Verb:
a content word that denotes an action, occurrence, or state of existence

English translation of those words:
Was = What
Deutschland = Germany
Ich = I
