also known as "Beta orbiter"


Orbiters (a.k.a. beta orbiters) are boys/men who invest financial and/or non-financial resources (time, emotions, hard work) in a girl/woman, online or in the real life, in hopes of someday getting close to her like a boyfriend or just for physical relationship. Females may keep such males around either as backups for whatever male they're with, or (like in the case of some online celebrities) as sources of money, popularity, non-material help and support, etc.

There are different kind of orbiters:

The most popular maybe is the LJBF orbiter ("let's just be friends" orbiter). This one is a male who makes an advance on a woman, who tells him "Let's just be friends." He continues to hang around this woman as a "friend", hoping that she will develop romantic feelings for him and/or at least will let him to get closer to him physically.

In some rare cases the orbiters may become boyfriends or to get some short term intimacy. Usually they don't. And as a female user said here "If someone is (only) using you then it's just a lost cause." so being an orbiter isn't advisable (recommended).

A simp is a person who does some of these things (invest finacially) and generally expect something in return.
Simping is more common in men, obviously.
But female simps exist too (go to your search engine and type in "Belle Delphine". She simped for Pewdiepie, a Swedish Youtuber)

And she, she's pretty... yeah...

Well, "simp" is a similar term. Orbiter is something like a long-term simp because he or she orbits for a long period of time like all the time during the high school or the college years...

 Don't stick to the details so much. It's a common polite expression (adjective) in English. Many native English speakers are using it in their daily conversations. It's not only an epistolary word.

It's okay, don't you think? Nobody here is a native English speaker so it's normal to wonder about some English words or expressions.

Only the third sentence is somewhat correct. I actually wrote "Dear (enter name here)."
