Indexing basically means enabling Google to show your website in it's search results. Not a good look to index domain.webflow.io if your main domain.com is live because most often it appears in search results before your actual domain.

Indexing is the process of getting your web page indexed by a search engine. Depending on the meta tags used, search engines will crawl and index the web pages. Indexes contain the information on all the websites that search engines was able to find. If a website is not in a search engine's index, users will not be able to find it.

Google use crawlers to collect entire relevant pages to the search queries, and creates an "index" which includes specific words, or search terms and their locations.
Search engines answers queries made by the users after looking up to the index and then shows the most appropriate results/pages.

Index. An index is another name for the database used by a search engine. Indexes contain the information on all the websites that Google (or any other search engine) was able to find. If a website is not in a search engine's index, users will not be able to find it.
