Cole Slaw

Cole Slaw

Ingredients

1/2 c mayonnaise
1/3 c granulated sugar
1/4 c milk
1/4 c buttermilk
2 1/2 tablespoons lemon juice
1 1/2 tablespoons white vinegar
1/2 tsp salt
1/8 tsp pepper
8 cs finely chopped cabbage (about 1 head)
1/4 c shredded carrot (1 medium carrot)
2 tablespoons minced onion

Directions

Be sure cabbage and carrots are chopped up into very fine pieces (about the size of rice). Combine the mayonnaise, sugar, milk, buttermilk, lemon juice, vinegar, salt, and pepper in a large bowl and beat until smooth. Add the cabbage, carrots, and onion, and mix well. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving.

Buttermilk Substitute

Put 1 tbs lemon juice or white vinegar in a cup. Add enough milk to nearly fill the cup. Stir. Wait 5 minutes before using. Use however much is needed for your recipe.

 We want to cook it at home. Only wondering what's 'pepper'? Black pepper? Paprika? Another kind of pepper? If I have to pick one -- I do prefer paprika.
 Let us know and we can cook it + we'll take a photo and post it here. :)

Ah, there is no cooking involved. All vegetables are raw. The pepper mentioned is black pepper. I don't normally add black pepper. If I use a pepper it will be a pepper sauce, which I did not use on this. It's all grating and knife work.

 I bought a cabbage, some middle-sized onions and two carrots. We have milk at home. We'll make a home-made buttermilk (it's very easy). And these days we may upload the photo. :)

 It's ready! 8) 8) 8) We'll upload a pic later! :) The sauce (mayonnaise, sugar, milk, buttermilk, lemon juice, vinegar, salt and black pepper) is very fragrant; I like it! I'll eat this dish tonight. It's going to be a good dinner: cole slaw + a mushroom dish + a fried egg + a glass of Sprite.
