Chicken Stew (Slow cooker)

Chicken Stew

Ingredients

2 tablespoons olive oil
6 slices bacon, diced
8 ouces mushrooms, sliced
1 red bell pepper, cut in 1-inch squares (or use roasted red peppers from jar)
1 green bell pepper, cut in 1-inch squares
1 bunch green onions sliced in 1/2-inch, about half of green included
4 chicken breast halves, boneless, cut in 1/2- to 1-inch chunks
1 can (4oz) sliced ripe olives
2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
3 tablespoons tomato paste
1 (14.5 oz) can tomatoes
1/4 cup chicken broth
1/2 teaspoon dried ground marjoram
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper or mixture of black and red pepper

Directions

Heat olive oil in a large skillet; saute bacon until browned. Add mushrooms, peppers, and green onions and saute for a minute. Add vinegar and cook 1 minute more, scraping up the browned bits from the bottom of the pan. Set aside.

Place chicken in a 3 1/2 -quart or larger slow cooker. Add sauteed bacon and vegetable mixture to the pot, then the olives. Combine the remaining ingredients in a bowl and mix. Pour over chicken and vegetables in the slow cooker. Cover and cook on low for 8 to 10 hours.

I know an American couple likes eat stew like this.
An interesting fact to add here (it's about the chicken breast): some Chinese people think this chicken meat isn't tasty. But I like it.

Lots can be done with chicken meat. It's flexible as far as using it as a meat. Cultures often come up with reasons why not to eat or even do something and as a society they all see it the same way.

During the Middle Ages, it was common knowledge that you didn't eat a tomato. The reason? It was poisonous or at least that was the society's view on the tomato.

Many cultures have the same types of viewpoints on various foods. What one thinks as food another doesn't even class as food. For instance, squid and octopus are not widely accepted as food here in the states. Yet we all know it is considered so in the Asian countries. My point here is not to say that a particular food is or isn't food but rather to point out it's public perception as a society that often colors the viewpoint.

 Yes, right. I remember something historical -- when the native Hawaiians met the Europeans and saw they eat pork, but not dog meat, they wondered how is that possible a person to like to eat tasty food like pork and to not eat another tasty food as dog meat! ;D
 Here, when someone ask me where do I want to invite me for dinner ("What kind of food do you prefer?") I answer: "Every restaurant is alright, except the ones, who serve dog meat dishes." I think eating predators has healthy risks. And I also have my concerns about the red meat at all (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_meat).
 It's so nice that we have these interesting food/culinary conversation around. 8)
