As per Rupert Hoogewerf's 2022 data(the samples are all 'long-term residents'), clearly having net asset of $1 million even 'mogs' like 95% of Shanghaieses!(Shanghai has 24,890,000 long-term residents)
https://ibb.co/nmR5Wry(You may need to translate by Google)
And this article has done the math for you:
https://m.163.com/dy/article/HVPCVQHI0534I0NW.html(still need translation)

Sorry for my laziness.

AFAIK Rupert's statistical model is sound, so having net asset of $1 million is 'just so-so' is really one of the most absurd bs I've ever heard of!

"Crazy" is a bit harsh, isn't it... I don't think they're crazy. Just greedy more than usual. Or they don't know any economics data. Stupid, yes but crazy, no...

You see, when it's something that I share the same or very close opinion, I come to support you at once (not having any bad feeling against you). :)
So, I do agree 100% about that -- there are some crazy Chinese who really think so because of their mental disorders, but the vast majority of them are just low-educated financially (economically) and/or more greedy than the average Chinese person.
I also met some Chinese people who (being rich) were thinking that sums (of money) like 100 000 yuan (around USD 14,097.24 now) are "not expensive". They just can't imagine that there are people (in China) who are working for 2000 yuan/month (around USD 281.94 now) -- for example some of the cleaners or waiters/waitress and shop assistants in Hainan province of (still so-called) PRC.
So, if it comes to USD 1 000 000 (which currently equals ~ RMB 7 000 000: 7,093,600.00 yuan now, to be exact, according to Google's information), only very rich (or very uninformed or really stupid) people may think that it's "so-so". I mean, yes, if you are having USD 100 000 000, for you, objectively, the 1% of this money is a "so-so" amount. But for a person with income RMB 2000, as those mentioned above in Hainan island, it's NOT AT ALL "so-so" because the simple arithmetics shows this (let's take an example with "only" 1 million yuan):

1000000 / 2000 = 500 (One million renminbis / 2000 renminbi (one salary) = 500 salaries) and 500 / 12 = 41.66(6) (500 salaries / 12 months = around 42 years going to work). Which shows that most of these people (and most, or at least many, of the people around the world) will never receive that much (1 000 000 yuan).

So, this is it. If some Chinese (or a person from another nationality, it's not the point) states that USD 1 mln. is "just so-so", he or she is filthy rich and/or he/she lacks of "touch with reality" (out of touch with reality).

(Objectively, the perception of 1 000 000 US dollars depends on where you are. If you're in Singapore where you need to pay 20 dollars for a dish it may be something like "so-so", but if you're in Cambodia where the same dish costs only 1,50 dollars, then the same sum of money (1 million US dollars) is a lot and a dream).
A fan of science, philosophy and so on. :)

I think you got upset about it because some Chinese female told you something like that "What if you're going to have USD 1 mln? It's just a so-so, I'm not impressed." Am I right? Otherwise why you'll care that much what the guys are thinking about your (not bad at all  8)) money?

OK see, to make it clear: I am with you on that (1 mln. is a pretty good money) but why you mentioned the "crazy Chinese" if you don't care about them? Typically, people care about the opinions of those who they are interested. So, it was a Stacy you like, maybe? ;) Share more. :D

Or just maybe they were thinking that with these 7 million RMBs they can buy only 2 flats and then... No money for car, no money for education. The prices of the housing in China are ridiculously high.
PR or PageRank (sometimes: "Page Rank").

After 10 more years with Uncle Xi those guys will think that 500 bucks are lots of money. Just give him some time to bring you the poverty.
An ethnicel...

I mean, his data are not 100% accurate and he himself said so. He said his data were only 60-70% accurate but they are def way better than 'The Center Bank of China' and... yeah statistically unsound claims like net asset of one million dollars is nothing in China.

And for the prices in Shanghai, admittedly the prices of the houses there highest, but the other prices are just okayishly high, like higher than avg but not to the degree like you will live a shitty life with 'only' two thousand dollars available in pocket per month here, if you have houses and cars.

What screws up Shanghaieses are just house loan and car loan. If you don't have house loan and car loan I think u are def even better than the majority of Shanghaieses.

Literally do never trust one's net asset he or she seemingly has. People are very likely to loan things like cars houses so that they seem to be very rich but their loans are off the table. Many Chinese have a 'foiable' that they like playing being very rich to others with tremendous loans screwing them up. I guess by Xi's leadership just like Ethicel said after 10+ years even loaning things would be unimaginably good lol.
Do never trust one's

OK... good one, and maybe (surely?) you know that the females are more "mercantile". Not each and everyone but let's say most and when you combine it with the situation (which is that most of the women are not interested in statistics, economy, news, politics, what else... and in most of the countries if I remember right from a study, the percentage of the women who can't read and write is higher than the males) you can expect that you will meet many, many women who'll think that your 1 million dollars  is "just so-so"... But the next level is be careful and avoid some who will say that it's "not important", marry you and after some months getting a divorce to take a part of your "not important" $1000000  :-X
