Why accurate written English is essential to your business

(英文)

If your business targets overseas companies or markets, it is highly possible that you use English as one of your advertising languages. In fact as the world by means of the Internet and other mediums becomes one global market, supplying advertising and written content in English is increasingly important to the success of any business. Even if you do not primarily target English speaking customers, many businesses realize that English is essential to winning the confidence of the consumer along with recognition as a professional corporation.

The fact that many people believe in the necessity of English in a business promotional activity, is made clear by the proliferation of English advertisements, or at least partly English advertisements, outside English speaking countries. Go to any city in China and you will note that the vast majority of large corporations have English names, English logos and English slogans. It is a fact that any serious business organization cannot afford to ignore.

However, there is a common problem that must be addressed. The problem lies with the English itself. It is very often – almost without exception riddled with inaccuracies. At best there are spelling or grammatical errors, at worst it is unintelligible. On numerous occasions a corporation has gone to great expense to create a colossal advertisement spanning an entire city block, yet the English part of the sign or advert is entirely incorrect. Sure, it attracts attention, but is it the right kind of attention? Is mockery the kind of attention your business wants? No! It makes the company look cheap, it appears as if the business has neglected, or worse still, could not be bothered to get the translation proofed.

Fortunately, the solution is easy. Always ensure that any written English your business uses, whether it be a sign or advertisement, a book, magazine or otherwise, is thoroughly proofread prior to going on public view. Be sure that it is precise and correct. The only way to be sure is to have it proofread by a qualified, native speaker. Don't make the same mistake as those that have gone before you. Make certain that your companies written English matches the same high standard that you have built your business on – it is essential to your success!
